About me
My name is Jazz Hampton. I am a father of three, a husband, a lawyer, an educator, and a lifelong community member of Minneapolis. This city raised me. It is where I am raising my own children. It is the place that gave me opportunities, and it is the place I have dedicated my life to serving.
Professionally, I have built my career around solving problems. As a practicing attorney, I worked on cases that demanded both sharp legal analysis and compassion for people whose lives were upended. I co-founded and led a technology company that connects drivers with attorneys in moments of crisis, building a platform that has helped thousands. I also teach entrepreneurial finance at the University of St. Thomas, guiding the next generation of problem-solvers.
I am also a candidate for mayor of Minneapolis. But I want to be clear: this project, and this website, are not part of my campaign. They are not about politics or elections. They are about building legal infrastructure that can protect lives, and showing how Minneapolis can be ready to act when given the chance.
At my core, I am a neighbor and a father. I walk my kids to school in Minneapolis. I go to the same grocery stores and parks as many of you. I stand at vigils when our city grieves, and I celebrate when our community thrives. These experiences shape my belief that leaders must do more than speak. They must build.
I believe in action that is rooted in principle, guided by the law, and shaped by community. Whether in the courtroom, the classroom, or City Hall, my approach is the same: listen to people, design solutions that work, and act with urgency.
This website reflects that commitment. The ordinance and memorandum you will find here are not abstractions. They are legal infrastructure, drafted with care, grounded in constitutional law, and created to protect people. I put forward this work because I believe Minneapolis deserves leadership that prepares, not just reacts.
Who I am is inseparable from who we are as a community. We are resilient. We are diverse. We are capable of leading the state and the nation by example. My hope is that, together, we can show that Minneapolis is ready to act, and ready to protect the lives of those who call this city home.
With gratitude,
Jazz Hampton
